What I’m looking for in a short story. . .

Much like Children’s and YA writing, great short stories are a very specific craft. Every sentence, really every word, has to be selected with care and must propel the story. I want to feel engulfed in the world you create from the very start, with immersive plots and perfect pacing. And I love narrators and characters who are immediately compelling, with distinct personalities and objectives. Whether you’re writing a thriller, a mystery or a comedy, I think the key thing is to capture the emotions at play in the stories you’re trying to tell – that’s what resonates with a reader!
