The awards are organised by founder Kim Donovan and supported by a team of highly qualified and experienced children’s authors.
Kim is also an author, with an MA in Writing for Young People from Bath Spa University. After her MA she published a fantasy series for young readers called St Viper’s School for Super Villains. More recently she has been focusing on short stories, with her writing featured in Mslexia and Writers’ Forum as well as shortlisted for The Oxford Flash Fiction Prize. Her time spent working for a publisher, reading children’s fiction submissions and reading for a national competition, inspired her to set up Searchlight Awards.
