Picture Book Author Prize 2026

Submissions from 2nd August to 20th November 2026, 23.59pm UK time

With leading literary agents selecting the longlist and shortlist this year and Emily Ford, Editorial Director in Picture Books at Macmillan Children’s Books, choosing the overall winner, this is an opportunity you won’t want to miss.

Send us 2–3 pitches (short summaries of your story ideas) along with the full text of one of them. No illustrations please. If you make the shortlist, we’ll invite you to submit the full texts for all of your pitches.

Why we are asking for multiple pitches: Agents don’t usually take on a picture book writer based on a single text, so our judges need to see your range: your voice, your ideas, your writing craft, and your ability to generate more than one strong concept.

If you only have one completed picture book text, you can still enter. Just send us the pitch for the story you’ve written and the complete text.
